About Margot Wilson
Margot Wilson is a Scottish-born interdisciplinary artist working at the intersection of sculpture, movement, and text. Her practice blends ritual-based methodologies with speculative and divinatory systems, particularly astrology, trance writing, and somatic intuition, creating works that move between material abstraction and psychic transmission.
An astrologer for 40-years she is the creator of Predictive Text / Trancing the Third Millennium, a durational, 200 m (expanding to 2 km) scroll of trance-typed text that functions both as installation and performative script. The project forms part of her collaborative speculative publication Channelling the Third Millennium, in dialogue with ALT-SAM, a fictional AI entity generated through immersive ChatGPT conversations.
Wilson’s research-driven practice draws upon deep engagement with Western philosophy, movement systems, and predictive practices such as tarot, mantra, and automatic writing. Her artistic influences range from Kerouac’s ‘kick writing’ to Duchampian indeterminacy, Cage’s chance operations, and the spiritual aesthetics of Alice Bailey. Across forms, she explores how language, breath, and gesture become sculptural materials, articulating a poetics of instability and emergence. She is founder Breath Quartet, a collaborative that integrates improvisational sound and movement as fluid acts of analytical streaming consciousness. These endeavours collectively explore the stable/unstable forces of human existence and the cosmos and humanity’s shared ancestry.
Her work has shown in group exhibitions including the Royal Scottish Academy, the Czech Centre London, and Tate Lates at Tate Modern, and she has presented on breath, cyclical energy, and creative cognition at the Royal College of Psychiatry Congress and the Science of Consciousness Conference. Wilson holds multiple degrees in Philosophy and Art from the Royal College of Art (2020-24), Slade School of Fine Art (2025-27), University of Glasgow (2013-16), and Birkbeck (2010-13), and was a fellow of the Radical Matter Proto-Centre Lab at RCA (2021-24).
